Requirement

To securely upload 100 + independent optometry practice’s data from the practice management system (Optomate) into a central data warehouse in order to facilitate Power Bi reporting and to provide benchmark data to assist practices with guidance on their operation.

Challenges

Each practice has their own separate infrastructure that is not networked to any other environment. This means that we needed to find a secure architecture involving public internet access which could be quickly implemented and remotely monitored across oner 100 individual private networks. We also needed to use the practice management system API to fetch the data.

The Solution

Using our light-weight ETL tool, we were able to create a template needing only credentials to be changed when installing on each new site. The data is fetched, then encrypted, compressed and uploaded through a secure API hosted on the central server into a multi-tenanted store which maintains separation between practice data and allows reporting access.

The API also features an update option allowing remote updates to be pushed back to each site as required without needing to manually remote onto each site, thus facilitating mass updates from one point. The Data Centre is able to be hosted and fully managed by the client.
